It’s even more important in retail, where your employees are the face and voice of your brand on an individual level. According to the Randstad Sourceright 2016 Trends Report, 72% of employersbelieve that a lack of talent has had a negative impact on their business, while three in four employers also find it difficult to hire staff who have the right skills for the job. In other words, it’s really important and really hard. Here are some tips to help you make it a bit easier and guarantee great results.

Work on a great process. Your hiring process has to be top notch. If you have a long-winded process which takes too much time, candidates will move on to another position. If you make decisions too quickly without performing your due diligence, you will end up with bad hires. You have to make sure that you are quickly finding high quality candidates while weeding out those who don’t measure up before going on to more precise checks. A background check should be included before any decisions are finalized.

Create the right environment. Your hires should be ambitious and driven to succeed. They need great benefits that provide opportunities to progress up the ladder and establish a good work-life balance. When you create a great company structure that nurtures and encourages talent, talented hires will flock to you. It also becomes a selling point for your job ads. Remember that you are selling your company to the candidate just as much as they must sell themselves to you. Use social media. Those who aren’t actively looking for a job may never hear about the great positions available at your company. But if they do, they may decide that they sound more attractive than their current role. You can also use networks like Instagram to share a behind the scenes look life for your employees.

Turn your staff into fans. If your staff are fans of your brand, love their work environment, and enjoy a great balance, then they are going to shout about it from the rooftops. Transforming your retail associates into brand advocates in this way leads to other potential candidates taking notice. Before you know it, you have a home-grown army of superfans helping you to recruit the next generation of talent without you having to add any extra input.

To bring top talent to your retail business, you need to make sure that you have a top company for whom they would want to work.
